Pelican Speak is an English word-reading game for iPhone and iPad. Say the highlighted word to help a pelican catch a swimming fish on a coastal bicycle ride. The interface offers 18 languages; the learning vocabulary is English.

Start a practice

Choose a topic and short lesson, then tap Start speaking. Allow microphone and speech recognition when prompted. The app uses English recognition on your device only. It does not record audio files or fall back to server-based recognition.

Make it comfortable

Automatic examples are off by default. Turn them on in Practice settings to hear each word before speaking, or tap Listen at any time. The default listening window is 30 seconds. Choose 10, 20 or 30 seconds, or a custom whole number from 5 to 300 seconds. New settings apply to the next fish; examples and pauses do not consume listening time.

Recognition tolerance has three levels. Encourage speaking is the most forgiving, Gentle is less forgiving, and Standard uses stricter word matching. This is not a pronunciation score or proficiency assessment. A system transcription is still needed; silence does not catch a fish.

No recognition or no sound?

Check microphone and speech permissions in iOS Settings. Your device must support on-device English speech recognition and have the required system speech resources available. If recognition is unavailable, reconnect to the internet for system resources, restart the app and retry. The app never switches to cloud recognition. Turn up media volume, disconnect an unintended audio output, and check Game sound and Background music in the app's Settings. Examples temporarily lower background sound.

Progress and purchases

Practice records and settings stay on the current device, with no account or cross-device sync. Clear practice records from the course screen; deleting the app and its data removes its local files. The App Store handles purchases, billing and refund requests. The app is free to download with one in-app purchase, “Unlock Full Version”, which a parent confirms and Apple processes; there are no subscriptions.

「鼓励开口」是最宽松的识别档位，另外提供「宽松」与「标准」。这里判断的是单词识别结果，不是发音评分或等级测试。系统仍需识别到候选文字，沉默不会自动吃鱼。

无法识别或听不到声音？

请在 iOS 设置中检查麦克风与语音识别权限。设备必须支持本机英语识别并具备所需系统语音资源。若提示不可用，可联网让系统准备资源，重新打开游戏后重试；应用不会启用云端识别。声音问题请检查媒体音量、音频输出设备，以及游戏设置中的「游戏声音」「背景音乐」；示范播放时会暂时降低背景音。

记录与购买

学习记录和设置保存在当前设备，不设账号，不提供跨设备云同步。可在课程页清除练习记录；删除 App 及其数据会移除本机文件。购买、账单与退款由 App Store 处理。应用免费下载，提供一项由家长确认、由 Apple 处理的 App 内购买“解锁完整版”，没有订阅。
